Flora of the Eastern Alps

What you feel under feet belongs to the Western Alps. But if you reach out your hand, you can make a journey to the East, in the flora of the Eastern Alps. The latitude is more or less the same, but not the lodestone. The Eastern Alps are mostly composed of calcareous rock.

Among these there is a light-colored stone that is special, dolomite, which forms a group of mountains as beautiful as the one in which you are now: the Dolomites. They are sometimes called the Pale Mountains, because of the light tones of the dolomite, but what really makes this place special, what made UNESCO declare it a World Heritage site, is its changing colors in different lights. This phenomenon is known as “Alpenglow”, and it tints the mountains red, pink and a dozen intermediate shades, depending on the time of day.
