Roots are a bit like the foundation of plants. But perhaps you didn’t know that, like the foundations of houses, they can conceal interesting secrets. In addition to keeping the plant anchored to the ground, in fact, roots absorb nutrients from the soil, and transport them to the surface. In this passage, they process the nutrients so that they can be assimilated by the plant. Moreover, roots also have a storage function, similar to that of cellars under houses: inside they accumulate nutrients in their tissues to be used in case of shortages.
Plants can have two types of roots: they are collated when they all have the same size and do not penetrate deeply into the soil, while taproots have a main root, much thicker and longer than the others. In some cases, this large root also serves as a warehouse and you can find an example of this in your fridge: carrots!
