Plants in this area are smaller than in the plains: have you ever wondered why? Dwarfism is a form of protection that mountain plants have developed to withstand the harsh climatic conditions in which they find themselves. Their small size allows them to resist the detrimental action of the wind, reduces perspiration and keeps them closer to the ground and its heat. But these plants are not small by choice: it’s the cold temperatures and the intense brightness that have inhibited their growth hormones. As a matter of fact, if we moved them to the plains or more shady spots we’d see them grow much more than the size we are used to.
