Some plants are like sisters: they look alike but they don’t have anything else in common. That’s how it is with Gentiana lutea and Veratrum album, with their lightly colored flowers and elongated shape. The Gentiana lutea has many beneficial properties and several practical uses: it helps digestion, cures fever and can be used to balance oily skin, and much ore. With the root we make liqueurs and spirits; to obtain the highest concentration of active ingredients, the root is extracted when the plant is not blooming.
On the contrary, Veratrum album is a toxic plant, poisonous for humans and animals. For this reason, it’s crucial to note the differences: in the Gentiana lutea, the leaves are directly opposite each other, while in the Veratrum album they alternate and have many more veins than those of the Gentiana.
